Quality Indicators
Quality Indicators (QIs) are markers that indicate either the presence or absence of potentially poor nursing home care
practices or outcomes. CHSRA developed the original QIs which were used from 1999-2005 by the Center for Medicare and
Medicaid Serices (CMS) in the nation-wide reporting system. In 2005 CMS extended the state reporting system to make use
of a new set of Quality Indicators/Quality Measures (QI/QMs). These new QI/QMs are based on the original CHSRA QIs with
a few new additions and changes.
